Dr. William W. Thomas
Dr. Thomas has been an Orthodontic Specialist in the Dental field for the last 22 years. He earned both his dental and orthodontic degrees from Georgetown Dental School in Washington DC. Upon graduation from dental school he was selected into the prestigious national dental honor society OKU, received awards for outstanding graduating Senior in Prosthodontic (dentures) and Pediatric treatment, and graduated in the top 5% of his class.
Dr. Thomas was born and raised in San Diego. He attended University High School (Uni Dons – now Cathedral Catholic HS), played Varsity football 3 years, was captain his senior year and selected first team all league his junior and senior year’s while playing inside linebacker. He then attended the University of San Diego where he graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors. Dr. Thomas was also selected the outstanding graduating male student and delivered the senior address at his graduation. He also played on USD’s football team where he was selected Captain and nominated for All-American his senior year – again while playing inside linebacker.
As an Orthodontist, Dr Thomas cares deeply about giving his San Diego / Poway / North San Diego County patients the highest quality orthodontic treatment results possible while using the most current techniques available. Every year, Dr Thomas and his Poway Braces Orthodontic Team attend over 50 hours of advanced state of the art Orthodontic / Braces education. The requirement for Orthodontists by the California State Board of Dentistry is 25 hours a year. His treatment philosophy focus’s on the concept of using gentle pressure, with longer treatment intervals between many appointments, thereby allowing teeth, gums, and bone the ability to achieve movements in a safe steady manor. Teeth, gums and bone respond remarkably well under light force conditions.
Dr. Thomas is an expert in many modalities of Orthodontics. He is currently the only certified Orthodontist in San Diego County offering the Wilckodontic technique for his patients. This certification requires a specialized course with the Wilcko Brothers – One brother is a gum specialist – Periodontist, and the other is an Orthodontist. This approach to braces allows most people to completely finish their entire Orthodontic treatment in only 3-8 months instead of the typical 18-24 months achieved with standard Orth0dontic treatment. We also specialize in Invisalign, the advanced approach to straighten your teeth, using clear removable aligners / trays without braces whatsoever. Dr. Thomas was also a certified Damon Instructor for many years, teaching Orthodontists throughout South America and the US how to best implement, utilize, and achieve excellent results using the Damon System of braces. Only 15 Orthodontist’s have been allowed to become a certified Damon Instructor to date.

Yasman Zarabi received her Bachelors degree in Chemistry with a minor in Biology from San Diego State University. She began working for Dr. Thomas in 2004 (8 years) and has extensive experience in the field of orthodontics. For many years Yasman has focused on developing solutions to implement and streamline the practices systems. In addition, Yasman is also responsible for developing and executing the marketing plan as well as over seeing the financial department. As the leader of our marketing team, Yasman manages all public relations, patient events and advertising campaigns. She is a valuable asset to our company and an instrumental part of the practices team.
Orthodontic Assistant
Renee Norton, a San Diego Native, is a Registered Dental Assistant. Rene has been with Dr. Thomas for the past 6 years working and mastering a variety of positions. She has extensive experience as a treatment records tech, front office receptionist, sterilization tech, and is currently an amazing chair side dental assistant. She is extremely knowledgeable and can answer your questions and provide details about any of our services. Whether it is answering phone calls or assisting our patients with scheduling , Renee takes pride in providing outstanding service and support to both her teammates and our patients. Both our adult patients as well as our child patients adore Rene and her soft hands and warm personality.
Receptionist, Communication Director, Team Coordinator
Lanie Stolis, a San Diego native, has been working for Dr. Thomas since 2006 (7 years). Lanie is responsible for all written communication including newsletters, patient reports and meeting agendas. She plays a key role in office meetings, and manages relationships with our patients. She is a dedicated and committed member of our team who can successfully manage several important projects simultaneously. There are very few people who are as good at multi tasking as Lanie. She is the go-to person at Dr. Thomas’s practice who is always ready to help with a welcoming smile. Often, you will speak to Lanie when you call our office.
